Poppy Lennox

Contemporary artist Poppy Lennox creates unique works on paper and wood that attempt to visualise the laws of nature and interconnectivity of life. Using a mix of gold leaf, paint and embroidery she plays with the contrast between the delicacy of woven threads through their hard wooden ‘canvas’ with the vivid, bold and exotic fauna that predominate her pieces. Vibrant colours permeate abstract figures, creating a fantastical quality that oscillate between the real and imaginary.

As if following traditional forms of embroidery, Poppy is drawn to symmetry and repetition. Threading each piece can take Poppy many hours, a process that allows her to enter an almost meditative state and become absorbed in the repetition of pattern. The titles of her works help the viewer understand the importance of this meditative dimension in her working process: they allude to a kind of pursuit of ascension, self-liberation or perhaps, refuge. In this sense, Poppy embraces spirituality in her work and follows a long tradition of artists who have used their art as an aid to look for transcendence and subject matters that go beyond a physical level.

Poppy’s work has been shown in a number of exhibitions and art fairs including The Savoy, 99 Projects, London, Paxton + Glew, Brighton and The Other Art Fair. She has sold to collectors in the UK, US, Singapore and Middle East and has work in the collections of private members’ club Home House and renowned London wine merchant Berry Bros & Rudd for whom she created a limited-edition artists’ wine label. Poppy has worked with arts mental health charities Hospital Rooms and A Space Between to deliver on-line and in person workshops. Her work has recently been included in a charity art auction at Christie’s alongside artists such as David Shrigley, Rob & Nick Carter and Zak Ové and will be one of the artists featured in the Art On A Postcard International Women's Day Charity Auction 2023.
