Can you tell us about an artwork that you'd save in a fire?

I’d try to save them all… I do have a few small ones I could cradle together. A piece each from Hormazd Narielwalla, Fa Razavi and Precious Opara. They hang together so would be easy to grab in a panic.

 

Can you share some tips on how to start collecting art and what to look out for?

If you’re excited to begin collecting art, I really don’t think there is a wrong way to start. You don’t even need to know what you’re interested in or to have a set direction for the collection… I think that’s a huge part of it. To explore. I think it’s important to remember that, artists make the artwork (literally and in spirit!). Fall in love with the artist and the work will hum and glow.

 

Why is it so important to buy from female artists?

Fundamentally, buying art supports the artist who made it. It is important to purchase art from female-identifying artists, as it is from all artists who have been historically (and currently) underrepresented in the arts and culture sector. Consciously collecting these works demonstrates support of the need for diversity in the art world and beyond. 

Which female artists are you excited about at the moment?

Inevitably there’s so many: Hongxi Li, Rong Bao, Sougwen Chung, Kate Meissner, Halima Cassell, Kayoon Anderson and so many more.

Pia Pack’s genius use of colour is so alive in 'Untitled, 2023'. I see a bed of vibrant poppies.

I’m really drawn to Davina Jackson’s balmy work ‘The End of the Day’. I love the intimacy of a piece this size.
